County to honour Cork Lord Mayor

A special tribute to the Lord Mayor of Cork, Mary Shields, will take place on Tuesday at Roscommon County Council’s offices, Courthouse, Roscommon. She will attend a function at 2 pm and receive a presentation from Cllr. John Cummins, the Cathaoirleach of the council.

Earlier in the day, Lord Mayor Shields (formerly Rhattigan), who hails from Scramogue, near Strokestown, will visit a local Ballyfeeney National School. She will also visit Castlecoote village, as a guest of Senator Terry Leyden and family. She will end her day in Scramogue, where she will be warmly welcomed by the local community.

Cllr. Eugene Murphy, a family friend and Scramogue native, said the community were looking forward to the Lord Mayor’s visit. He added: “She has never lost contact with her local community and we are so proud of her achievements in becoming Cork city’s first citizen last year. Tuesday will be a very special day for our locality.”
