Rosalie row…

Ministers, councillors told to step down

Health Minister Leo Varadkar and Junior Health Minister Kathleen Lynch were urged to resign during a heated discussion on the county’s health services at Monday’s meeting of Roscommon County Council in Boyle.

Cllr. Paschal Fitzmaurice (Fianna Fáil), who called for ministerial heads to ‘roll’, also called for Fine Gael councillors John Naughten, Maura Hopkins and Michael Creaton to quit Fine Gael if the Rosalie Unit at Áras Naomh Chaolain, Castlerea, closes down.

The Castlerea man’s call came during a debate on the planned closure of the unit, which caters for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Speaking directly to the trio, he said: “Will you withdraw from Fine Gael if the Rosalie Unit closes?”
