Independent Ireland Leader Michael Collins Proposes Quarterly Meetings of Opposition Leaders

Independent Ireland Leader, Michael Collins TD, has called for quarterly meetings among opposition leaders to strengthen collaboration, uphold democratic values, and present a united front against government overreach.

In a letter addressed to opposition leaders, Deputy Collins highlighted  the need for structured engagement to ensure accountability, democracy, and justice.

Party Leader Michael Collins TD stated: “The recent occasion where we stood together as leaders of the opposition was  a pivotal turning point in our collective mission. Despite our diverse political views, we share a common goal: safeguarding the interests of our nation and upholding democracy. Regular meetings will help us identify common ground and work more effectively on behalf of the people we represent.”

Key Proposal:

  • Quarterly opposition meetings to discuss strategy, share insights, and coordinate responses to government actions.
  • A united approach to holding the government accountable while respecting each party’s individual principles.
  • A focus on common ground to strengthen the voice of the opposition in Dáil Éireann.

Deputy Collins emphasised that while political differences exist, greater collaboration will provide a stronger alternative to the current government. He has invited feedback from opposition leaders and looks forward to working together toward a more effective and impactful opposition.
