Domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers was estimated as 685.0 million litres for May 2008. This was 0.5 percent below the corresponding 2007 figure. Comparing the May 2008 milk produce figures with those for May 2007 shows that total milk sold for human consumption decreased by two percent to 43.7 million litres. Butter production was down 12 percent to 16,800 tonnes.
