The number of people in Roscommon receiving the Carer’s Support Grant has risen steadily over the past five years, with 2,269 recipients recorded in 2024, up from 1,955 in 2020.

The figures, disclosed in response to a parliamentary question by Sinn Féin TD for Kerry Pa Daly, show a consistent year-on-year increase in the county.

The grant, which is paid annually to full-time carers, has also seen growth across the region. In 2024, Galway recorded 6,798 recipients, while Westmeath had 3,113. Longford’s figure stood at 1,592, with Sligo at 1,903 and Leitrim at 1,059. Mayo reported 4,043 recipients this year.

Nationally, the number of people in receipt of the grant has risen from 116,838 in 2020 to 135,586 in 2024. The payment is available to those receiving Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or the Domiciliary Care Allowance, as well as some other full-time carers.

The grant will increase to €2,000 from June 2025 as part of Budget 2025 measures.
