In a swift response to safety concerns, Roscommon County Council has confirmed the closure of a building (Egan’s Town House, Boyle) designated for housing asylum seekers. On Thursday, February 13th, a Closure Notice was issued under the Fire Services Act by the Fire Authority, highlighting the immediate risks associated with the property.
The building was initially set to host 14 residents under the International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS). Consequently, the International Protection Procurement Service (DCEDIY) has relocated these individuals to a centre in Galway for their safety.
Roscommon County Council’s Local Authority Integration Team (LAIT) has coordinated with their counterparts in Galway to ensure that all necessary support systems are in place for the relocated residents.
