Fianna Fail Cllr. Eugene Murphy has called on Roscommon County Council to solve a serious flooding problem on the Roscommon to Strokestown road “once and for all”.

Fianna Fail Cllr. Eugene Murphy has called on Roscommon County Council to solve a serious flooding problem on the Roscommon to Strokestown road “once and for all”.
The flooding is a regular occurrence on a section of the road a mile from Strokestown on the Roscommon side of the town. The road was flooded badly again this week and cars were only able to pass with great difficulty.
Cllr. Murphy says “Flooding on this road has been a problem for the past thirty years. There has been hundreds of thousands of euro spent on the road to try and solve it over the years but to no avail. The problem is as bad this week as ever. I know that we have had a lot of very heavy rain in recent weeks but surely something can be done about this problem.
“I have contacted the County Council and have asked them to solve this problem once and for all. If the road needs to be raised then so be it. They (the council) are the experts. This problem has gone on for far too long and it’s time it was solved. The flood-waters will subside in the next few days and the problem will go away but only until the next time we have heavy rain. We cannot go on having this problem returning year after year” he concluded.
