Roscommon survived a late rally from Louth to win a vital two points in Drogheda on Sunday. Final score: Roscommon 1-17 Louth 1-15. After a tight first half a two-pointer from Diarmuid Murtagh and a point from play in injury-time saw the Rossies ahead by 0-10 to 0-5 at half-time.
Roscommon’s outstanding attackers were to the fore in the third quarter and when Keith Doyle fisted home a great team goal in the 60th minute Davy Burke’s men led by 6 points. But inspired by the outstanding Sam Mulroy Louth came with a late surge and a goal from Val Leddy in injury-time and points from Mulroy and Dara McDonnell left two points in it. The final whistle came to the rescue for Roscommon for whom Colm Neary, Ciarain Murtagh and Diarmuid Murtagh were outstanding. Roscommon next play Monaghan at home in two weeks’ time.
