The Final Whistle what they said

McStay looks forward to a ‘novel final’

“Yeah I’m happy. The first ten minutes of the second half was key. We upped it a good bit and I think everyone saw that. It was a real November performance. Everyone dogged in and worked hard. Some of the lads got tired but we brought in other lads and we kept the intensity levels high.

“Yeah I’m happy. The first ten minutes of the second half was key. We upped it a good bit and I think everyone saw that. It was a real November performance. Everyone dogged in and worked hard. Some of the lads got tired but we brought in other lads and we kept the intensity levels high.

“I was never too concerned when Sean Armstrong got those three points in that second half. He is a good player and is going to get scores but it is how you react and we reacted very well. The loss of Seamie Crowe must have been a loss to them but we coped well all over the field.

“We started poorly but we got going in the middle of the field and we played well after that. We were happy that our support play was solid all the way through and that’s so important. Our foot-passing was good and overall we have to be happy with that win.

“It’s another game with no goals conceded and I am happy with our defensive display. This will be a novel final against Ballaghaderreen. I know that Mark Dowd has done a great job there. We haven’t done a bad job here so far either so we will have a great final.”

Niall Grehan (St Brigids player)

“We are delighted. The memory of the defeat against Salthill in 2005 was in the back of our minds coming in here and we put that one to bed here, thankfully. We have plenty of experience now and we worked so hard there today. Every ball was contested with great intensity and it worked out great.

“Salthill came back at us in that second half but our experience shone through but once we got a few points after that we settled down again. This team is going non-stop for three years now and that is standing to us. We know eachother so well now and there is a great team spirit.

“You could argue that it’s an all-Roscommon final now but that’s for another day……there will be a great build-up to the game and if we display the same work ethic that we had there today we will not be far away.

“We will focus on Ballaghaderreen from later this week and I’m sure the management will have a game-plan to take them on. We are looking forward to it.”
