Slane’s back with a bang

Although I was unable to attend the Foo Fighters concert in Slane last Saturday, it was reported to have been a very enjoyable event, despite the unfavourable nature of the weather.

I did catch various highlights on TV, and it seemed that the 60,000 or so fans who made their way to the iconic countryside venue were treated to a fantastic musical extravaganza, which also included Wicklow sensation Hozier.

Foo Fighters were the main attraction and any doubts about their ability to pull a crowd were quickly cast aside. Of course it always helps when you provide a strong support line-up, and in Hozier, one of the hottest properties on the music scene at the moment, they secured a gem who attracted his own loyal band of followers.

During a weekend which saw both Life Fest take place in Mullingar, and Forbidden Fruit up the road in Dublin, promoters will be happy that Slane still held its own, enhancing its reputation as one of the most popular open-air gigs in Europe.
