The Sunday World’s famous Pub Spy recently paid a visit to two premises in County Roscommon – Regan’s in Roscommon town and the Claypipe Bar in Knockcroghery – with both receiving positive reviews in the national newspaper.
Speaking about their experience visiting Regan’s Gastro Pub (and restaurant) in Roscommon town, the writer spoke about the “very enjoyable atmosphere” in the well-known local establishment.
“As we sipped our pints of stout, we revelled in our surroundings – and Regan’s pub has lots to admire. It was very clean and modern with a vast amount of seating available”, Pub Spy wrote, going on to credit the “mannerly” staff.
The writer also mentioned the recent awards success the popular local premises has enjoyed in recent years, referencing the 2018 award Regan’s received for best Gastro Pub in Connacht, the awards they won in 2022 for best emerging Irish cuisine and best casual dining in Connacht, and the 2023 award they received for best customer service in Connacht.
Pub Spy wrapped up their review saying, “We enjoyed our trip to Regan’s pub and Co Roscommon, and we look forward to calling again”, before bestowed a four out of five pints rating on the premises.
The Claypipe Bar in Knockcroghery village also received a recent visit from the Sunday World’s Pub Spy, and it too was given a positive review.
Pub Spy praised the convenient car-parking facilities outside the pub, and commented that they found the establishment to be “a very busy spot for such a small village” – adding “most of the population seemed to be in the front bar”.
They deemed the Claypipe a “nice pub”, noted the facilities and the cleanliness/good condition of the bar, and recommend to readers to stop off at this premises if they’re passing through.
They spoke particularly positively when talking about the quality of the drink and the service they received, noting that despite the busyness they observed, they were served “immediately” – going on to comment that they “couldn’t fault the pints of plain”.
