Rooskies Café – Locally sourced food in a relaxed setting!

Hailing from Rooskey originally, Karen O’Callaghan certainly wasn’t about to forget her roots when she opened her new café in Ballaghaderreen earlier this year.
“We opened Rooskies at the beginning of April. I come from the village of Rooskey outside Ballaghaderreen…hence the name!

“Here at Rooskies We serve a selection of breakfasts and lunches, all made to order. Also cakes, desserts, pastries and a selection of scones, from rhubarb to nettle, plain and fruit. Not to mention great coffees and teas!”
Karen has adopted a ‘slow food’ policy at Rooskies as is evident on the café’s menu.
“Our ethos is very much slow food, which means our menu is filled with locally sourced, organic food as much as possible,” Karen says.
“We also offer our customers delicious and nutritious alternatives. All our scones and cakes are homemade and our food is cooked to order. Our ingredients are sourced as close to Ballaghaderreen as possible to reduce our carbon footprint”.
Diners at Rooskies can enjoy delicious food in a spacious, light-filled setting; safe in the knowledge that what’s on their plate is supporting local suppliers and producers.
“We really believe in local and we would like to thank all of our producers including Ballymore Organics, Croghan Organics, Dozios Cheese, Dunmore Goats Cheese, SuperValu, McHugh’s Wholesale, Musgrave’s Sysco and Aurivo,” Karen says.
“We are also extremely grateful to our wonderful customers who have been extremely supportive since we first opened in April. We have received so many good wishes from people in Ballaghaderreen and we look forward to serving them for a long time to come”.
Located at Duffy’s SuperValu, just off New Street in Ballaghaderreen, Rooskies Café is open for dine-in or takeaway Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
