Refurbishment of the old Royal Hotel site in Boyle will begin in the New Year after the contracts for the work were signed at Roscommon County Council offices last Wednesday (16th).
The refurbishment, which is funded by the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF) from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Roscommon County Council is due to commence in mid-January.
Speaking at the signing, Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Laurence Fallon said: “I welcome this project, it is a really important day for the town of Boyle and the members of the council have been very supportive of this project from its outset”.
Elliott Properties Limited have been awarded the contract, and DeBlacam and Meagher Architects are the design consultants for the project. The refurbishment will involve the redevelopment of the old Royal Hotel site into a landing space for start-up businesses and exhibition space. It will also include the development of a riverside promenade and civic space which will completely transform this riverside location in the heart of the town.
“We purchased the old Royal Hotel site, with the support of the members, as a statement of our vision for Boyle as outlined in the Boyle 2040 Framework plan. Today marks the next step in realising the ambition for Boyle town and it follows on from a number of initiatives which have begun to transform the town and realise its untapped potential”, stated Eugene Cummins, Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council.
Mr. Cummins acknowledged the work of the Regeneration Unit in bringing the project to this stage. He also thanked the Boyle Town Team for their support.
This project is the first of many capital investments throughout the county which will commence in 2021 and are made possible through the Project Ireland 2040 investment programme.
