Daly selected to run for FF

Martin Daly has been selected to run for Fianna Fáil in the forthcoming General Election in Roscommon-Galway constituency.

The Ballygar-based GP, a long-time Fianna Fáil member, defeated Senator Eugene Murphy at
Thursday evening’s Selection Convention, held in the Abbey Hotel.

It is understood that the winning margin was just eight votes, with 106 delegates supporting Dr Daly, and
98 supporting Senator Murphy. Martin Daly is now the official Fianna Fáil candidate in the three-seat Roscommon-Galway constituency, but there is still a strong possibility that party HQ could add on Senator Murphy and go with a two-candidate strategy.

Senator Murphy and his supporters are already making the case for him to be added on, given his track
record over the years and the need – as they see it – for the party to run a candidate from the north of the constituency.
