Roscommon A&E is the finest in the country, according to a ratings given by patients and their relatives on irishhealth.com’s ‘Rate My Hospital’ service. The A&E at Roscommon County Hospital was ranked top, while that of the Mater Hospital in Dublin was ranked bottom. The ‘Rate My Hospital’ service allows patients and their relatives to rate hospitals they have recently experienced under a wide variety of quality headings relating to level of service and care provided. Since its launch last September, some 6,150 patients and relatives have now completed 23-part online questionnaires relating to their hospital experience. After just five months, ‘Rate My Hospital’ is already understood to be the largest ever comprehensive national hospital survey undertaken in Ireland. Comments on the ‘Rate My Hospital’ site on the top-ranked Roscommon’s A&E include: "Nurses in A&E were excellent and very caring even though they were overworked’ and "Overall I found the hospital to be extremely well run and the staff are very thorough and helpful. There were patients on trolleys in the A&E while I was there as there was a lack of beds to admit these people to and the staff were having to cope under stressful circumstances." Patients and relatives who vote on ‘Rate My Hospital’ are asked to rate hospitals under separate department/specialty categories. On this basis, Roscommon is this month voted as having the best rated A&E in the country. The top Dublin hospital in the A&E category is Temple Street, in second place, followed by Crumlin in third position.
