Colourful parade promised in Ballaghaderreen

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Ballaghaderreen promises to be a fun affair, with lots of local floats competing for a range of valuable prizes. Over 40 floats are expected to take part in this year’s event. Once again, the parade is being organised by Ballaghaderreen and Districts Development Ltd and this year’s event takes place on Saturday, March 17 th , commencing at 2.30 p.m. Floats for the event will assemble from 1.30 pm on the Sligo Road. With over €2,500 in prize money on offer; the competition for the top prizes is expected to be tougher than ever. First prize is €1,000, second is €750, third is €500 and fourth is €250. There will also be a prize of €100 for the best window display. Musical entertainment will be provided by a number of bands. In the interest of safety, Gardaí have requested that moving vehicles in the parade refrain from throwing sweets, etc. into the crowd. Also there will be no on street parking from Hunt Insurances to Brian Mulligan’s on both sides of the street until after the Parade.
