Elphin are back in senior club football in Roscommon after they defeated Strokestown in the IFC final at a vert wet Dr Hyde Park on Sunday. The old chiche ‘Goals win Games’ is very apt in this instance as goals in the 22nd minute from man of the match Shane Killoran and a fisted effort from Fintan Cregg in the 47th minute were the key scores in the match.
Elphin dominated the first half exchanges and led by 1-4 to 0-3 at the break. Strokestown were a much changed team in the second half and a string of fine points saw them level the scores at 1-4 to 0-7 by the 42nd minute. But inspired by Killoran, Gavin Murray and veteran Fintan Cregg Elphin regained control and ran out impressive eight-point winners, 2-9 to 0-7.
