Citizens Information Services (CIS), provide a free, independent, and confidential information, advice and advocacy service to the public on a wide range of areas. The areas covered include social welfare rights and entitlements, employment rights, health services, housing, education, family matters and consumer rights. CIS’s also provide assistance and advocacy support to people dealing with more complicated issues. The service works with all members of the community including pensioners, people with disabilities, migrants, refugees, lone parents, the Travelling Community, prisoners, people who are geographically isolated and those who do not have access to digital resources.
In 2023, the South Connacht service, which covers Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, responded to over 53,000 queries via phone, email and face-to-face consultations.
