Roscommon Solstice Choir, the voluntary, community-based choir that was formed in 2013, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The choir, which currently has about 100 volunteer  members, is run under the musical directorship of Rooskey siblings Eimear and Andrew Reynolds, both of whom are well-known names on the music circuit.

The Solstice Choir aims to provide an outlet for people to come together in harmony to sing, to socialise and to raise money for charitable causes.

Another of the choir’s primary aims over the years has been to provide free concerts of hope and inspiration, available to everyone, and to offer people who could do so an opportunity to donate to charity. This much-appreciated theme has continued in the choir’s concerts over the course of their first decade in existence.

Membership is open to everyone, irrespective of class, creed, ability, or gender, with no auditions required and no musical expectation set. All that is needed is a passion for music and a good sense of humour!

In addition to the singers, there are many volunteers who work in various ways to ensure that concerts run smoothly and that much-needed funds are raised. The choir is a true community undertaking.

Fundraising and providing charities with an opportunity to raise money at the choir’s events has always been a huge focus for Roscommon Solstice Choir. Over the last ten years, the choir has made a significant impact in and on the local community – and beyond – through its fundraising efforts. The choir has raised an enormous amount of money for various charitable causes and local initiatives since its inception, and continues to keep fundraising a priority focus to this day.

Each year, Roscommon Solstice Choir performs two charity programmes – Spring/Summer and Christmas – with several concerts taking place over the course of both programmes. This year, in celebration of the Choir’s 10th anniversary, a very busy schedule is planned, with four eagerly-anticipated concerts set to be performed on December 3rd, 8th, 10th, and 17th.
