The excitement is building for Stevie Lee’s Farm Open Day on Thursday, August 20, from noon to 5 pm, in Cloonkeen, Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
Many people are watching the progress and development of Stevie’s farm, where he has updated the facilities in his parlour and on his farm with a view to expanding his herd following the abolition of quota.
Currently, Stevie has 63 Holstein Friesians with calving in spring. The average yield of his cows is over 6,500 litres.
Stevie is following in the footsteps of his father, who installed the first milking parlour in the late 1960s. Stevie has expanded over the years and the farm is now spread over 115 acres.
The farm open day will feature exhibitors from across the farming industry, with Dairymaster, Farrell Farm Systems, AIB Bank, Western Pump Solutions, Interchem, Maddens of Lerhin Ltd, Arrabawn Co-Op, JFC Manufacturing Co. Ltd and DG Roofing all in attendance.
All of these companies have been involved in the development of the farm and will be on hand to provide specialist information and advice to anyone attending.
In addition to this, a series of interesting and topical talks will be presented on the day, commencing at 1 pm.
Jiska Healy, a veterinarian at Dairymaster, will speak about ‘How technology can improve the reproductive performance of your dairy herd’.
This is an excellent opportunity for farmers to talk with the exhibitors about herd health, farm efficiency, finance, technology, cow housing, fertility and the overall development of a dairy unit.
Farrell Farm Systems installed a Dairymaster 12 unit Swiftflo Swing parlour for Stevie in January 2015 that is designed for efficiency, comfort and high throughput.
There will be an opportunity to see the parlours labour saving devices such as Automatic Cluster Removers, Swiftflo Bailing, FeedRite In-Parlour Automatic Feeders, AutoWasher and Manure Scrapers.
The local Dairymaster Distributor, Farrell Farm Systems is highly regarded by Stevie and is always on hand with any advice and provides an excellent service.
Entry is free and food will be provided on the day by YUM Catering Limited.
