Roscommon Mart Report

Friday August 7th: There were larger numbers on offer this week. There was a good trade for bullocks with prices improved from the previous week in particular for quality store lots.

The trade for heifers was similar; however lesser quality lots were a little easier. There was a good demand for dry cows with no significant change in prices.

Friday August 14th at 11 am: Special sale of bullocks and heifers. 70 pens of bullocks & 50 pens of heifers.

Dry cows made from €830 to €1455 per head. Sample prices: Char X 735 kgs €1455, AAX 770 kgs €1380, Lim X 690 kgs €1305, Char X 675 kgs €1200, Char X 705 kgs €1200, Fr 580 kgs €830.

Heifers made from €435 to €875 over. Sample prices – Lim X 625 kgs €1500, BBX 560 kgs €1400, BBX 500 kgs €1320, 2 Char X 415 kgs €1090, 2 Char X 352 kgs €940, SAX 405 kgs €940, Char X 445 kgs €925, STX 435 kgs €1000, Char X 415 kgs €1105, Simm X 455 kgs €1080.

Bullocks made from €405 to €855 over. Sample prices: 2 Char X 665 kgs €1520, AAX 630 kgs €1360, Fr 650 kgs €1250, Lim X 500 kgs €1210, 3 Char X 371 kgs €1150, 3 Char X 345 kgs €1040, AAX 350 kgs €885, BBX 305 kgs €870, Simm X 310 kgs €715, Lim X 320 kgs €770.

Cows with calves at foot made from €1720 to €2040.

Show & Sale Weanlings, Tuesday August 11th: There was a large entry of excellent quality stock on offer at the Autumn Show & Sale of weanlings. There was a strong trade –all-round with a top price of €3.71 per kilo for weanling bulls and an average price of €2.51 per kilo.

Heifer weanlings averaged at €2.75 per kilo and a top price of €3.56 per kilo. There was a brisk demand for stock with a high clearance of lots. There was a good attendance of both exporters and farmers in attendance.

The next weanling sale will be held on Tuesday August 25th at 5 pm.

Next Show & Sale of Weanlings on Tuesday September 8th.

Weanling bulls made from €595 to €1075 over. Weanling heifers made from €380 to €1050 over.

Sheep Sale, Wednesday August 12th: There was another large entry of sheep this week. There was a good demand for stores but prices were a little easier.

There was a similar trade for factory lambs with a good clearance of lots.The prices for cast ewes were on par to last week.

Weekly sales for sheep continue on Wednesdays at 11 am. Please note ewe lambs will be sold separately to wether/ram lambs.

Draw for Starting pens. The draw for the starting pen will be held at 10.45 am. A second draw will take place to determine whether the draw will go up or down.

Dates for your diary: Breeding Ewes weekly on Saturdays at 11 am. Gate opens at 8 am.

Castlerea Mart Report

650 cattle on offer with prices for quality lots holding firm, especially the bullocks and heifers. Plainer-type classes of stock have witnessed a drop in prices in recent weeks but the weanling classes reported good prices for the quality lots on offer with strong farmer demand resulting in a good clearance overall.

Sample prices BULLOCKS: LMX 450kgs €1230 Ch 430kgs €1185 AA 540kgs €1255 Ch 540kgs €1395 Ch 620kgs €1490 Lim 725kgs €1710 Ch 805kgs €2015.

HEIFERS: Ch 410kgs €1185 Ch 370kgs €1085 Ch 580kgs €1425 Ch 440kgs €1195 Lim 610kgs €1420.

DRY COWS: Lim 825kgs €1665 Sim 740kgs €1515 Lim 625kgs €1400 Sim 740kgs €1465. Cows with calves at foot made from €960 to €2220 for a Ch cow and her bull calf at foot. Springers made from €950 to €1650 per head.

CALVES: Stronger types coming to market at the moment. Calves made from €230 to €645 for continental-type calves.

WEANLING BULLS: Lm 285kgs €1100 Ch 240kgs €940 Ch 250kgs €850 Lm 450kgs €1280 Lm 340kgs €1160.

Sales continue at Castlerea Mart on Thursday next with a sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am, with three rings in operation.
