I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down with the various residents of Shannon Lodge Nursing Home earlier this week. It’s no wonder that the residential nursing home is often the recipient of high praise by HIQA for their standard of resident care.
At Shannon Lodge the residents decorate their rooms the way they want to, the rooms are personalised, and they are assisted with their activities of daily living with things as simple as having their hair brushed to regular snacks and a good varied menu tailored to each resident’s dietary needs.
“Our home is surviving on the goodwill of our family, and in particular my wife Edel, who is the Director of Nursing”, explained Adrian Cox, the Registered Provider and Managing Director of Shannon Lodge Nursing Home. “Making sure that our residents are safe, happy and healthy is at the forefront of what we do.
“Every single member of staff, resident and family member who visits us is an extension of the Cox family, as far as we are concerned,” explained Adrian, continuing: “And speaking of extensions, in another context, our goal for 2024 is to extend the nursing home from a current 36-bed home to a 51-bed home for which we recently secured planning permission.
“Provided we can keep the bills paid, we’ll keep this nursing home open as a nursing home and it will be a family-run nursing home because that is the only way you can guarantee not just the health of residents but their happiness, which in my book is of paramount importance”.
Thanking the Roscommon People for visiting, Adrian concluded: “I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone… including our staff, our residents, their families, our suppliers and the wider community for all the support they offer us here, throughout the year. Merry Christmas to one and all and here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year”.
