Richael’s Bronze bonanza!

Cyclist earns podium place at Worlds

Ballymoe para-cyclist Richael Timothy secured a bronze medal in both the C3 scratch race and omnium at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow this week.

Timothy finished off a successful championships for Team Ireland with a third-place finish in the scratch race therefore earning a podium spot in the women’s omnium, which ranks riders on four events; individual pursuit, 500m time trial, 200m time trial and scratch race.

Speaking to media afterwards, the former Roscommon footballer said she was happy with the medal.

“It was a very negative race, no one was really trying anything because it was such a small group as well, but I suppose a medal is a medal so I’m happy with it now. I’m kind of used to bronze and fourth places so it’s good going into next year and we’ll see what we can do,” she said.

Her performances in Glasgow set Richael up nicely for the Para-cycling Road World Championships later this week.
