Man (23) pleads guilty to two Sligo murders

Will be sentenced in October

A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty to murdering two men and causing serious harm to a third in Co. Sligo last year.

Yousef Palani, of Markievicz Heights in Sligo, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of County Roscommon native Aidan Moffitt at Cartron Heights, Sligo on April 10th, 2022. He also pleaded guilty to the murder of Michael Snee at City View, Connaughton Road, Sligo two days later, on April 12th, 2022.

Palani further pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to Anthony Burke at Cleveragh Road in Sligo on April 9th, 2022.

The body of Lisacul native Aidan Moffitt (41), a well-known auctioneer and Fine Gael activist, was discovered at his home in Cartron Heights on April 11th, 2022. Galway native, Michael Snee (58), was found dead just a day later on April 12th.

An inquest heard that both men had suffered multiple sharp force injuries to neck and head while Mr Moffitt also suffered sharp force injuries to his chest.

Justice Mary Ellen Ring extended her sympathy to both families of the deceased and directed that victim impact statements be prepared.

The matter had previously been listed for trial on November 13th but has now been adjourned to October 23rd for sentencing.
