Valerie Duffy officially co-opted as Roscommon County Councillor

Valerie Duffy from Moore was officially co-opted on to Roscommon County Council today, filling the late John Naughten’s seat as a Fine Gael representative. Speaking in the chamber today, Valerie said: “It’s an absolute honour to be joining you here today. Thank you all for the welcome, and to those who put their trust in me and supported my nomination.” She thanked her neighbours, friends and colleagues and said: “I will do my utmost to represent everyone in County Roscommon.”

A well-known community activist from Moore, Ms Duffy was the preferred choice of Fine Gael members at the co-option selection convention held in the Athlone Springs Hotel on Thursday night. She secured the seat after defeating Taughmaconnell’s Ger Grehan in the members’ vote.
