Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice (BWN) for customers on the Castlerea Public Water Supply following concerns over water quality.
The notice, affecting approximately 4,400 people in Co Roscommon, was issued due to increased turbidity at the Longford Springs treatment plant, which has impacted the treatment process.
Customers in the affected areas are advised to boil water before consumption, including for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, and making ice. A full list of impacted locations is available on the Uisce Éireann website, where customers can check their Eircode for confirmation.
Efforts are underway to address the issue, with Uisce Éireann working closely with the HSE to lift the notice as soon as it is safe to do so.
Ger Greally of Uisce Éireann apologised for the disruption: “Public health is our number one priority, and we are working to resolve this issue as quickly and safely as possible.”
Customers registered as vulnerable will receive direct updates, and a free text alert service is available for real-time notifications.
