Ladies Footballers fall 4-17 to 2-9 at Pairc Ui Caoimh

Roscommon ladies footballers went down to Cork at SuperValu Pairc Ui Caoimh today when the home side proved too strong in attack and ran out 14-point winners, 4-17 to 2-9. The first half saw the sides score six goals between them. Cork had the ball in the Roscommon net after 25 seconds from Elizabeth Coppinger, and Emma Cleary followed up with another goal in the 8th minute. But Roscommon goals from Aisling Hanly and Laura Mannion kept Finbar Egan’s side in touch. Further goals from Cleary and Coppinger before the break saw the home side ahead by 4-6 to 2-5.

Cork kept Roscommon at arm’s length in the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Roscommon play Tipperary and Westmeath in their final two league games. Today, Helena Cummins, Laura Mannion and Aisling Hanly were prominent on the day for Roscommon.
