Roscommon Ladies finish level against Donegal

Roscommon and Donegal battled to a thrilling draw in their Division 2, Round 4 encounter of the LIDL NFL, finishing level at Roscommon 0-10, Donegal 1-7 after a dramatic contest in Johnstown.

The opening minutes saw a tentative start, with Roscommon edging ahead at the 2-minute mark through a point, leading 0-1 to 0-0. Donegal responded quickly, levelling the score at 0-1 apiece by the 5th minute.

Donegal then seized the initiative, with Susan White’s free and a Shauna McFadden score pushing them into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead by the 8th minute. Roscommon fought back, narrowing the gap to 0-3 to 0-2 by the 10th minute, before a strong spell saw them take the lead at 0-4 to 0-3. Donegal struck back to level it at 0-4 each by the 21st minute. The score at halftime was Roscommon 0-8 to Donegal 0-6. 

The second half saw the intensity ramp up as Roscommon pulled ahead with a series of scores. However, Donegal refused to fade. Despite being reduced to 14 players, they mounted a late comeback, bolstered by a crucial goal that levelled the scores at 1-7 to 0-10 by the 72nd minute.

Towards the final whistle, Roscommon was down to 13 players, and couldn’t secure a late-minute victory, resulting in both teams sharing the points. The draw leaves both teams with plenty to reflect on as they head into the next round of the campaign.
