The annual Glenamaddy District Ploughing & Agricultural Show will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, with the 2024 event taking place at the Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre on Sunday, September 29th (10.30 am-6.30 pm).
This year’s event was officially launched last Saturday night at the Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre, with committee members, public representatives, sponsors, and supporters present.
Last year’s show was a tremendous success, drawing over 6,500 attendees. And as 2024 marks the event’s 10th anniversary, the committee have committed to making this year even more spectacular!
Agricultural events
Attendees at this year’s show can expect a fantastic line-up of agricultural competitions and classes, such as the prestigious National Ploughing Association’s feature ploughing event and the comprehensive livestock showcase in the 40,000 square foot equestrian arena, officially endorsed by the Irish Shows Association.
Between the Commercial and Pedigree Cattle Show, the Dairy Cattle Show, the Sheep Competition, the Sheep Dog Trials, and the Poultry Competition, the wide range of agricultural classes and events in store next week makes the upcoming show at Glenamaddy a must-see for enthusiasts.
..and more!
Outside of livestock classes and other agricultural draws, there will be lots more on offer at this year’s Glenamaddy Show.
Celebrity chef Edward Hayden will join local chef Tony Scapaticci to give cooking demonstrations and share some fabulous recipes. Be sure to call into this if you want some tips for the kitchen!
There will also be an opportunity to enjoy an extensive display of vintage tractors, machinery, and cars at this year’s Vintage Show, with a competition on the day for the Judges’ Favourite Car and Tractor. There will also be a working thresher on display.
Additionally, attendees will be able to enjoy a range of live performances featuring traditional Irish music and vibrant local talent, with live music in the bar from Damien Davis, Carmel McLoughlin, Quinlan Gannon, and Bróga Bríomhar Dance School.
Dancing and jiving competitions will also be held, and attendees are invited to show off your moves in the lively annual competitions (including a junior category), which will be held in the main bar on the day. Even if you have two left feet, you can still enter!
Younger attendees will have lots to entertain them, with a number of fun-filled activities designed to entertain and engage children of all ages, including amusements, an art competition and a magician act.
Trade stands remain a popular attraction at Glenamaddy Show, with a variety of local and artisan products available, such as handmade crafts and treats – don’t worry about bringing a packed lunch, there will be lots of delicious foods and drinks on offer! Some stands will also be exhibiting different types of resources, from farm equipment, technology, renewable energy, heating, and much more.
The committee are also excited to announce that they are hosting the All-Ireland Tractor Pulling Finals at this year’s show, which will provide a unique opportunity for local participants to compete to break a new world record!
The aim is to break the world record for the fastest time to plough a one-acre field, which currently stands at 9 minutes and 49.88 seconds.
Committee’s thanks
The committee is looking forward to the upcoming show, and is particularly thrilled to be celebrating this ten-year milestone. They would like to express their grateful thanks for the countless hours of dedication from the show’s volunteers and committee members throughout the year, and wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the show’s generous sponsors for making the event possible, as well as to all the entrants, spectators, exhibitors, and everyone who joins in on the day.
