Cllr. Orla Leyden is calling on the Government to introduce a Covid-19 rates freeze for businesses to ease the burden on businesses and their families during this time of national crisis.
She said she has contacted Roscommon County Council and is seeking a rates freeze as a matter of urgency. The Local Authority has said that they are waiting for advice from central Government as a whole government response is required.
Cllr. Leyden stressed that it is critical that the Government responds positively.
“Businesses do not have the means to pay as a result of the Covid-19 emergency,” Cllr. Leyden said as she welcomed the freeze on Local Property Tax introduced by the Revenue Commissioners, with the payment deadline extended from March 21st to May 21st.
